Rescuers avert major fire tragedy at factory

Fire brigades of Phnom Penh Municipal Police averted a major fire tragedy at Xin Wei Jie garment factory in Toek Thla commune of Sen Sok district in Phnom Penh yesterday.
Rescuers doused the fire in less than half an hour after the Phnom Penh Municipal Police sent more than a dozen fire trucks to the Xin Wei Jie garment factory.
No casualty or injuries have been reported so far, and the Fire Department of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police has launched an investigation to find out the cause of the blaze.
Soum Sokhim, Deputy Chief of the Fire Department, said that 19 fire trucks, including a few private ones, were sent to put out the fire.
Sok Sophal, Toek Thla commune police chief, said that the fire was extinguished at 1 pm and the timely intervention of the rescue personnel has stopped the blaze from spreading to residences nearby.
Fire trucks managed to arrive at the spot without delay as the streets were wide, he said, noting that ït made the efforts of the firefighters easier”.
The police chief urged residents to report fire accidents immediately to the local authority and police to avoid major tragedies. He also told the people to avoid keeping incense stick near inflammable objects, check the plugs and electricity cables, and check gas cylinder and stove in the kitchen before leaving home to avoid fire accidents
He added that details of yesterday’s fire incident were yet to be known and the police have started an investigation.
