Khmer Times/ August 20, 2021
Minister of Interior Sar Kheng yesterday announced that they will soon establish and train volunteer fire fighters across the Kingdom, which will require five volunteers per village from the ages of 18 upwards.
Kheng said that this is an important task with it being related to social security, property safety and human life.
“In order to make firefighting and fire prevention more effective, the firefighter volunteer group will be formed as soon as possible, as requested by Kheng”, the Fire and Rescue Police Department (FRPD) director Lieutenant general Neth Vantha told Khmer Times yesterday.
“After setting up the firefighter volunteer groups, the FRPD will train them on how to put out a fire safely and rescue fire victims.” he added.
He said that the main cause of fires are electricity faults.
A report by the National Committee for Disaster Management showed that in the first six months of this year there were 288 fire cases across the country, killing 14 people, injuring 29 and damaging 321 houses.
