Fire destroys houses in Phnom Penh after ‘explosion’

At least one wooden house was completely burnt down, a woman injured and 9 other dwellings damaged in an extensive fire last night.

The blaze occurred at 6:30pm on May 31, 2022, at the point next to the concrete road in Russey village in Sangkat Niroth, Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh.

According to sources at the scene, before the incident, they heard an explosion on the victim’s house

Immediately afterwards, they saw smoke and flames issuing forth from the dwelling

Unable to extinguish the inferno, residents called on the fire brigade.

The fire prevention and rescue police of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police were soon on hand with several fire trucks retackled the blaze until it was put under control in 1 hour

Investigators are now trying to ascertain the reason for the fire
