Many homes in Phnom Penh’s Chroy Changva District were damaged in a fire that spread throughout an area near the Chroy Changva bridge, causing panic among residents of the area.

The incident happened at 4:40 AM on April 22 in Dem Mean Village, Sangkat Chroy Changva, Khan Chroy Changva.

The fire was reported to have started in the home of one Kong Srey Tum. Srey Tum said that while he was asleep, he heard an explosion and woke up to one of the rooms in his home on fire. He along with his family ran out of their home and warned their neighbours of what had happened. The fire was so strong that it had spread to other homes.

Colonel Prohm Yorn, Director of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Office of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, said that after receiving information from residents, he immediately released several office fire trucks to help fight the spreading flame.

Four homes were engulfed by the inferno. The homes caught on fire quickly due to the flammable materials that they were built out of. The cause of the fore had not yet been identified.
