One dead, others injured in Russey Keo fire

A fire in Phnom Penh’s Russey Keo District left one dead and two others injured.

The incident happened at 3:30 a.m. on January 26 at Boeung Salang 1 commune near Borey Sambath, Sangkat Russey Keo, Khan Russey Keo. The owner of the house and the occupants have not yet been identified.

According to neighbours, the house served as a stocking location for items. Before the incident, the homeowner burned some materials in front of the home but local authorities stopped the man and put out the fire.

At the time of the incident, a large fire was seen in the house and spread to belongings outside of the house including a car. Neighbours went to call the homeowner and occupants. Due to the size of the fire, those inside the home could not escape through the front door and tried to escape the flames by climbing up to the roof.

The authorities were called to intervene, but when they arrived a person had already died. According to reports, the individual who died had collapse due to smoke inhalation before being caught in the inferno.

Those who were injured were transported to a hospital to be treated. The authorities have not yet concluded the cause of the blaze.
