‘Huge’ fire in Phnom Penh’s Russian Market area

12 fire vehicles were called yesterday evening to a blaze that destroyed 2 buildings in Phnom Penh’s Toul Tum Poung district.

The incident happened at around 5:30 pm on June 27, 2021 house 97, street 432 in Sangkat Toul Tum Poung, Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh.

Residents said that the fire spread rapidly from the house to other house in the street, causing panic amongst residents.

Authorities quickly intervened, calling firefighters to the scene, took measures to prevent the fire from spreading to other houses.

After an hour combatting intense flames, the fire was finally extinguished at 18:40 pm.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an electricity surge, however investigators are still working to pinpoint the cause.
