Angry military officer sets fire to his house

A military officer, in his fit of anger following a heated argument with his wife, set fire to his house yesterday in Stung Treng province’s Stung Treng city.
The officer identified as Heng Vibol, 40, was arrested yesterday after the incident which destroyed his house and all the belongings inside.
The officer is attached with an engineering battalion based in Cambodia-Lao border in Stung Treng province.
Stung Treng city’s deputy police chief, Major Vong Borath said today that the incident happened about 4.45pm yesterday when an argument broke out between him and his wife, 37, a primary school teacher.
It is learned that the argument was over his wife owing money to the bank and some people.
The suspect is being detained at the provincial police headquarters for interrogation, and also subsequently for legal action.
The suspect is expected to be charged with “intentionally causing damage” and if convicted will face a jail sentence of up to two years.
