PM cautions people to avoid fire risk during CNY festival

Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday wished “Gong Xi Fa Cai 2021” to the Chinese community and those celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year festival in the Kingdom.
On his Facebook page, Mr Hun Sen also called on those celebrating the festival to be cautious of possible fire outbreaks from burning candles and papers when performing prayers.
The premier who posted a picture together with his wife Bun Rany in extending New Year wishes to the Chinese community in the Kingdom, also urged everyone to be very careful when using candles, while cooking or dealing with other flammable materials.
The premier said he did not want any untoward incidents to happen that will spoil or disrupt the New Year celebration.
While ushering in the year of the ox, the premier also called on the people to put in place all the safety and health measures as outlined by the Health Ministry to prevent a COVID-19 outbreak.
He also appealed to all road users to respect the traffic laws as there will be more vehicles on the roads during the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations.
Mr Hun Sen also took the opportunity to wish all his compatriots good luck and success.
Last year, the Ministry of Interior’s Fire Prevention and Rescue Department recorded 937 cases of fire that caused the deaths of 24 people and 36 others suffered minor and major burns and injuries. It was observed that the number of fire cases in 2020 increased by 220 compared to 2019.
