Six people injured in a casino fire in Poipet

Six people were injured in a fire that ripped through a casino building in Banteay Meanchey province’s Poipet city at about 9: 35 pm on Monday, police said.

Major General Ath Khem, Banteay Meanchey police chief, said that the blaze broke out at about 9:35 pm on Monday in the Ground Casino building, noting that the firefighters brought the fire under control and put it out at 2am today.

“Six people suffered injuries in the fire and they were sent to the hospital right away,” Maj Gen Khem said.

According to a National Police report, the firefighters used 10 fire trucks, including three trucks from the casino to extinguish the fire.

It said that the building was on fire because of electrical circuit malfunctions.

“Six people were injured because of suffocation. There are five Cambodians and one Chinese national. They were sent to the referral hospital,” the report said.

The National Police’s Fire Department report said last week that 17 people died and 52 were injured in 534 fires in 2018.
